I was sad to read that the school closed.  I attended from 1st grade (1963) through 8th grade (1971).  I still remember Sister Sharon rapping my knuckles with a ruler for talking!  One of my fondest memories was looking at the rows of graduation pictures on the walls of the first floor as we would line up.  Mother Thaddeus (early on) and later Sr. Suzanne would stand guard on the steps of the office making sure that no grubby little fingers were touching the pictures.  It was a great place!

Jerry Fortin, Wed Aug 06 2008, 09:38pm

I attended Saint Bride's from 1st through 3rd grades. I made my First Communion and My First Confession at Saint Bride's. I wanted to be confirmed and married at Saint Bride's, but it didn't work out that way.

Sister Sharon ??? was the first grade teacher, Mrs. Duffy was the 2nd grade teacher, and Mrs. Geary was the 3rd grade teacher. The music teacher was Miss Sosnic. This would have been around 1966 to 1970. Father Gerald Joyce was a priest in the parish at that time if my memory serves me correctly. Can anyone tell me the whereabouts of these people?

There was also a series of summer morning or Saturday morning classes(I can't remember which) that were meant to enhance your reading and comprehension. I believe they were called "creeping and crawling". You actually crawlled around on the carpeted hallway in front of sister Suzanne's office (the principal at that time, anybody know where she is too?) while turning your head repeatedly about, to the left and to the right, in sync with the crawling motions. I remember participating in this program, but don't recall what it was all about or what redeeming value the program was to have had. My Father, who is now in his late 70's, near 80, does not  remember anything about this at all.

I have seen the gorgeous pictures of the church on the website, but what happened to the quaint little chappel style church in the lower level? Has this been demolished or is it just not displayed on the website for various reasons?

Any information that Saint Bride's church staff or prior school staff couId provide would be most graciously appreciated. If there are any former classmates or parishoners out there, I would be happy to keep in touch.

To the current parish family: my Mother grew up in the house at 2822 East 77th Place from approximately 1930 to 1960 and then moved in to the second floor apartment with her husband and son from 1961 to 1970. This residence had a lot of family memories. Can anyone tell me what happened to this house?

Upon Google-ing this address, it appears that this house is gone.

My address is as follows:

Mr. Jerry Fortin
23 Jamestown Circle
P O Box 1086
Riverton IL 62561-1086

My E-mail address is Tlmj61@aol.com

Again, if anyone has any data they would like to share, I would be most appreciative.

Thank You
Jerry Fortin

"Deacon" Paul, Wed Mar 19 2008, 11:44am

Hi Fr. Bob.... it's been a long time we didn't keep in contact. In these past few days, all of a sudden my mind has flied away to South side of Chicago. I remember you and all lovely people at St. Bride. It seems still fresh in my mind all good things that I learned from you and all the people last Easter. It is still fresh in my memory all the hectic preparation that we did last year during this week. I believe you're in the same situation right now. Before you caught up in these three days celebration, I think it's the best time to say hi to you and all congregation..... I wish you a wonderful Easter Feast...... I wish you the best .... I miss you all.... and thank you for allowing learning all good things from you all during this wonderful Holy Week last year.....

My best and warm greetings to all of you .......

Are there any 1961 graduates out there?  My e-mail is maryasack@yahoo.com.  My sister. Kathy, and my brother, Stephen, were also students at St. Bride.  Is the convent still there?

Mary Anne McCormick Sacramento, Thu Feb 21 2008, 04:36pm

I graduated from St. Bride Grammar School in June, 1961.  Mother Xavier was principal and Sr. Mary Conchetta was my 8th Grade teacher.

I loved my years at St. Bride and miss them dearly.  Are there ever class reunions?

Liz Goodrick Wise, Thu Oct 04 2007, 07:37am

Dear Father Bob and all the wonderful Parishioners of St. Bride's,

I would like to thank all of you for the wonderful reception you gave the Class of '57, when we came to Mass last weekend. The "Coffee and..." after Mass, was terrific. You went to so much work and made us all realize that, actually, St. Bride's Parisioners haven't changed a bit. We are all the same...kind, loving and thoughtful. And we so love our Parish. If I still lived in Chicago, I would be there every week.

I hope to attend Mass when my husband and I come in for the Alumni Luncheon on the 7th...if only I can get through Mass without crying.

Thank you again and my prayers to you all.

Great web site. Sure brings back some memories. I am truly sorry that the school closed. I would have graduated in 1969 if we had not moved southwest of Chicago in the summer of '68, New Lenox, IL. I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to see some of my old classmates at the 20 year reunion/picnic. I had not spoken with anyone for at least 20 years and was contacted by Kathy Dean. I had a great time. I now live in Lake Charles, La. Home to Hurricane Rita in 2005. I have worked for the same company for 25+ years, and assist in the operation of a chemical facility that produces a chemical propellant for the U.S. Air force and NASA. My wife, Maria, and I have 2 daughters and 5 grandchildren, 3 boys & 2 girls. Wish all of you the best.

I forgot to leave my e-mail address. We're still looking for a lot of our lost '57 grads. If you can help, please let me know.

I graduated from St. Bride's in 1957. We are having our 50th Reunion the last weekend in September and many of us will be coming back on October 7th for the luncheon. I am excited about seeing my old classmates, but the most exciting part of my weekend will be attending Mass with my class at St. Bride's Church.

God Bless!

Eileen Coonnolly, Sun Mar 25 2007, 01:44pm

Hello, I am researching my family history which has led me to St. Bride's. My great uncle Peter McArdle, his wife, Katie (Boyle), children Stephen, Charles, Catherine and Margaret lived at 7648 Coles Avenue.  I discovered that Catherine (Boyle) McArdle died on December 20 1919 with a solemn requiem high mass at St. Bride's Church on December 23rd and burial at Mount Olivet.   After Catherine's passing the children cannot be  found in the 1920 US census with their father.  I am thankful for any kind of information on any of the above mentioned family members.

Hello.  I was baptized at this Church in the Spring of 1978.  I am going through Adult Confirmation in Minneapolis, MN and they are requiring me to get a copy of my Baptismal Certificate.  What is the process for me to acquire this?  What information do you need from me?
